Paul Nelson

Andy Watson and I started the firm in 1973. We had both practiced law in Toronto and, together with our spouses, decided together to opt for the lifestyle and close relationships which are part of life and practice in a smaller community. Since 1973 we have had the firm focus that it is a privilege to practice law; everyone in our office strives to deliver timely efficient, professional advice, as each of us would wish to receive, if he or she was retaining any professional person.

For over three decadres, my personal practice has involved a large component of real property law, including condominium and land development, builder representation, institutional lender representation, as well as mortgage work and conveyancing—for both vendors and purchasers. Additionally, I act for a number of corporate clients and am involved with the numerous transactions and other issues which are part of normal commercial commerce. I am also involved in residential real estate, estate administration, and I advise on non-litigated family matters.

I try to keep well-grounded in the every day world for my professional practice, but for recreation I spend many hours soaring thousands of feet above ground in my sailplane; or, alternatively, under the water surface strapped to a scuba tank. Another recreational diversion for me is travel—I am fortunate to share this pastime with my wife, with whom I have also shared many decades. My community work, over the years, has included:

  • Chairman and Trustee for Wellington County Board of Education for three terms
  • Chairman and Trustee for The Elliott, a not-for-profit seniors’ retirement complex for ten years
  • Wellington Legal Aid Committee director for 25 years
  • President and Director of federal riding political association
  • President and Director of Guelph Gliding and Soaring Association
  • Director for Wellington Law Association
  • Trustee on local Church Board
  • Former Big Brother

I am certain that a large part of the success of our law firm and my own work as a lawyer is attributable to the high level of dedication and competence of our long serving paralegal staff, who among them have over 100 years’ service with Nelson, Watson LLP.

For as long as we are engaged in our daily professional practice, we will all continue to serve our clients with integrity, commitment, and diligence.
